We have the AGM is due on 14th October.  During that weeks rehearsal there will be a brief review of the year’s activities and selection of the committee.

The committee’s job is to run the society on your behalf. There are those who have defined roles and those without portfolio whose help and advice is much appreciated. This latter group may from time to time take on specific organisational roles, such as looking after the Winter Social.  The committee meets just four times a year and it is usually both business like and  a pleasant amiable occasion.

With the long term health of the committee in mind we would like to encourage members of the choir to consider joining at some stage. It is interesting, useful and not a life sentence!

In an attempt to get you to think about this we provided everyone at 16th septembers rehearsal with a nomination paper. In addition to nomination information we have taken the opportunity to show you what the committee does by listing the job descriptions of committee members on the back of the nomination paper. From this year the system is that three members of the committee retire and they may or may not choose to stand again. It’s up to them.

This year four people are retiring.

Nominations are due in by the end of rehearsal 4 on 30th Sept.
Bring the papers to the rehearsal and hand it to Jenny or to Chris .
They end up with the Secretary who will let us all know who is standing.

Candidates will identify themselves on 7th October, and a week later we have the AGM at which the committee membership is settled.

Haydn Nelson Mass - Autumn term

We start back for rehearsals for this on the 9th September.
There will therefore be TEN rehearsals.  Based on our normal 75% attendance ruling this would mean you need to attend 7.5 rehearsals! - Clearly this is nonsense.  
Based on the music Martin has advised that 8 rehearsals will be the minimum attendance requirement.

As normal scores will be sourced by choir, but for those who wish to buy their own you need to get the one pictured on the left the New Novello Choral Edition.  This can be found online from various sources.  You can take advantage of out 10% discount with Choraline
(see further down the page for instructions).

After Nelson......

St John Passion 28th March 2015

This one is a complex piece, hence no Xmas concert this year, as we need the rehearsal time.

Rehearsals start immediately after Nelson Mass on 18th November.

8th Nov - 9th Dec, followed by 6th Jan - 24th Mar = 16 rehearsals in total

Applying our normal 75% attendance 'rule' means people will be can to miss a max of 4,

but, this will be split between pre-Christmas and post-Christmas.

75% rule for the pre-Xmas rehearsals- e.g. must attend 3 out of the 4 to be able to sing

75% rule of the new year - e.g. must attend 9 out of the 12 to be able to sing

One more thing - the concert itself falls on the first Saturday of the Easter Holidays; make sure you don't book yourself an Easter holiday and miss the concert!!

TWO weeks off for Easter ( I know! - unheard of!)

Start back on Tuesday 14th April, giving a total of 12 rehearsals.
75% rule = minimum attendance of 9 rehearsals.
